How can I automate my Google Nest Thermostat™ based on system actions or events?​

Set up Rules in the Frontpoint app or website to automate your Google Nest Thermostat™ - making it more intelligent and responsive to events that occur. To create a Rule with a Nest thermostat, a Scene that includes a Nest thermostat must be created first. To learn how to create a Scene with a Nest thermostat, click How to create a scene in the options below.

When configured, your Nest thermostat can automatically change its mode or target temperature based on a change in system state (arming/disarming) or Smart Door Lock activity.

For inspiration to set up your own automated Nest thermostat rules, here are a few customer favorites:

  • Set a new target temperature for the Nest thermostat when getting home and disarming the system.

  • Turn the Nest thermostat off when a Smart Door Lock is locked.

  • Change the Nest thermostat's mode to heat or cool when going to bed and arming stay your system.

  • Turn the Nest thermostat on and set a target temperature when a Smart Door Lock is unlocked.

For help configuring automated Nest thermostat control, or any other automated events, please refer to the instructions below for the Frontpoint app and website:

  1. Log into your account on the Frontpoint app.

  2. Tap on Rules in the navigation menu.

  3. Select an existing rule to modify it or tap "+" to create a new rule.

  4. Tap Select to the right of "when" to select when the rule activates.

  5. Tap either Lock or Security Panel to select the device that will be used to trigger the rule - device options are determined by the equipment on your system.

  1. Choose the action that will trigger the rule to start and then tap Done in the top right corner.

  2. Tap Select to the right of "then" to select the action that will occur when the rule is triggered.

  3. Tap Scene - device options are determined by the equipment on your system.

  4. Select the Scene that includes your Nest thermostat to activate the Scene when the rule is triggered and then tap Done in the top right corner.

  5. Enter a name for your rule.

  6. Tap Save in the top right corner.

  1. Log into your account on MyFrontpoint.com

  2. Click Automation in the left-hand menu.

  3. Click + Add New Rule.

  4. Click New Rules Builder.

  5. Click either Lock or Security Panel to select the device that will be used to trigger the rule - device options are determined by the equipment on your system.

  6. Choose the action that will trigger the rule to start and then tap Done in the bottom right corner.

  7. Click Select to the right of "then" to select the action that will occur when the rule is triggered.

  8. Click Scene - device options are determined by the equipment on your system.

  9. Select the Scene that includes your Nest thermostat to activate the Scene when the rule is triggered and then tap Done in the bottom right corner.

  10. Enter a name for your rule.

  11. Click Save in the bottom right corner.
