How do I fix a Smart Door Lock status that shows as Unknown?

An "unknown" status and beeping when the Smart Door Lock attempts to lock can be caused by the Latch Bolt running into interference when extending (locking).

Ensure there is nothing in the way of the Latch Bolt when it fully extends and ensure that the Strike Plate Box is at least 1 inch deep, as shown below.

If the Strike Plate Box is less than 1 inch deep, follow the Step-by-step guide below:

1

Tools Required to expand the Strike Plate Box

To expand the Strike Plate Box to at least 1 inch deep, you will need the following:

  • Phillips head screwdriver

  • Power Drill

  • 1 in. Hole saw with an Arbor and Pilot drill bit

2

Remove the Strike Plate

Remove the screws holding in the Strike Plate on the door frame, using the Phillips head screwdriver.

3

Use the power drill

Prepare your power drill and use the 1 in. hole saw with the Arbor and a Pilot drill bit to drill into the Strike Plate Box, until the hole saw reaches a depth of 1 in.

Ensure the hole is clean, with no debris inside of it to ensure nothing will interfere with the Latch Bolt when it extends (locks).

4

Re-attach the Strike Plate

Re-install the screws to attach the Strike Plate to the door frame using the Phillips head screwdriver.

5

Test the Smart Door Lock

Close the door and attempt to lock the Smart Door Lock using the Frontpoint app.

If the Smart Door Lock beeps several times and shows a status of unknown in the app, the Latch Bolt is still not able to fully extend.

Check that there was no debris left inside of the Strike Plate Box and remove anything that could interfere with the Latch Bolt extending (locking).

If the depth of the Strike Plate Box is still too shallow, repeat these steps until the hole is at least 1 inch deep.
