Where should my Smoke and Heat Sensor be placed?

We recommend mounting your sensor in the center of the room or hallway, at least 4 inches away from any walls or partitions. Install wall mounted units so the top of the unit is 4 to 12 inches below the ceiling.

Please avoid mounting your sensor directly in a kitchen, garage, near furnaces, near hot water heaters, or space heaters. Also avoid the ceiling in rooms next to a kitchen. Do not place the Smoke and Heat Sensor in humid or damp areas, such as bathrooms or next to bathrooms with showers. Place the sensor away from heating/air conditioning vents or dead air spaces.
