You may have noticed two different network options when connecting a device to Wi-Fi, a 2.4 GHz network and a 5 GHz network. These are the frequencies Wi-Fi uses to broadcast a signal. 5 GHZ is not better than 2.4 GHz; they just have different uses.

2.4 GHz has a larger range but transmits data more slowly. It is useful for a device far from a router or Wi-Fi extender. Though the signal does not transmit as quickly as 5 GHz, it can travel further through walls and air, ensuring the device maintains a strong connection.

5 GHz has a shorter range than 2.4 GHz, but it transmits data more quickly. Most devices don't need the extra speed, but if the device is near the router, 5 GHz is recommended so as to not overload the 2.4 GHz network and slow it down. Streaming, online gaming, and video calls will also benefit from utilizing a 5 GHz network.

Frontpoint devices and cameras will work on either network, but for devices or cameras that are on the second story of a home, outside, or if there are many walls or obstructions between the device and the router or Wi-Fi extender, connecting to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is recommended.
